Bertha Benz - our inspiration

We chose the name bertha's place not only in reference to our address (Bertha-Benz-Platz 2) but rather as a tribute to the strong personality Bertha Benz, a mother of five children who made a name for herself as a visionary, rebel and pioneer.

Bertha Benz was the first person to undertake a long-distance journey in an automobile. In 1888, accompanied by her two sons Eugen (15) and Richard (13), she drove a distance of 106 kilometers to demonstrate that her husband Carl Benz's newly developed three-wheeled Benz Patent Motor Car was safe to use even for women with children.

With impressive willpower, passion and determination, she has dared to give the new technology a chance and support it with her courageous journey.
